Exclusive: U.S. directs agents to cover up program used to investigate Americans

Reuters blew the lid off a surveillance unit within the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency with troubling practices in a report published on Tuesday. The Special Operations Division of the DEA uses intelligence from two-dozen partner agencies – including the FBI, CIA, and NSA – to launch investigations against everyday criminals in the U.S. DEA agents are told to recreate the intelligence they receive from SOD so they don’t have to report the existence of the program. These cover ups are one of the most disturbing aspects of the program: They prevent defendants from fully reviewing the prosecution’s case against them.
